چکیده
An earlier article described the role of the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness and the work of the Diabetes Care Program of Nova Scotia (DCPNS) and its partners in approaching the controversial topic of self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) in persons with non-insulin-using type 2 diabetes mellitus.1 This preliminary work included the early steps taken to inform, engage and gain consensus on the need for SMBG and frequency of its use in this population and to introduce a draft tool for providers to assist in making decisions around SMBG.

Background and Aim: Appropriate control of blood sugar delays the onset and progression of diabetes mellitus (DM) complications. Nurses have a decisive role in the education of self-care behaviors to diabetic patients, including self-monitoring of blood glucose. The current study aimed at assessing the effect of educational intervention based on continuous care model on self-monitoring of blood...

OBJECTIVE To determine if therapeutic management programs that include self-monitoring of blood glucose result in greater HbA1c reduction in non-insulin-requiring type 2 diabetes patients compared to programs without blood glucose self-monitoring. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Electronic databases including MEDLINE (1966-2004), Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, EMBASE (1950-2004), Centre...

We conducted a systematic review of the literature for the effect of resistance exercise training on these clinical markers in Iranian's type 2 diabet...
متن کاملBlood glucose self-monitoring in non-insulin-treated type 2 diabetes: a qualitative study of patients' perspectives.
BACKGROUND Self-monitoring of blood glucose is controversial in the management of type 2 diabetes. Some research suggests that self-monitoring improves glycaemic control, whereas other research is sceptical about its value for people with type 2 diabetes who are not on insulin. Although blood glucose meters are widely available and used by this group, patients' own views are absent from the deb...
متن کاملSelf-monitoring of blood glucose in type 2 diabetes: patients' perceptions of 'high' readings.
Among 207 non-insulin using patients with type 2 diabetes in Tayside, Scotland, who self-monitored blood glucose, we present evidence that many are tolerant of higher blood glucose levels than are clinically advisable; this may explain the lack of empirical evidence for the clinical benefits of self-monitoring in this group.
